CoughDrop offers a keyboard interface for spelling out complex or unique words. The keyboard can also be set to provide autocomplete features to suggest word completion for greater efficiency. Users are also free to create their own custom keyboards for use within CoughDrop.
Sidebar button
While in Speak Mode, hit the Sidebar button to open the quick launch sidebar. Your default CoughDrop sidebar will include a keyboard that you can use to spell words or select letters.
Hitting the keyboard button on your sidebar will open the keyboard speech board which allows you to select letters one at a time to compose words to be spoken by CoughDrop. The default CoughDrop keyboard contains all English letters and a link to a board which also allows the use of letters.
Tapping the "space" button on a keyboard lets CoughDrop know that your word has been completed and CoughDrop will start a new word.
If you don't like the default keyboard you can use the CoughDrop search feature to look for another keyboard which may better fit your needs. Type "keyboard" into the CoughDrop search bar and you will see an array of keyboard. Hit the "i" icon in the right corner of any board image to preview that board.
Some available keyboards will include word prediction functions, quick communication links, additional common words, and more.
Keyboard interface
You'll be able to spell out words and then return to your Home board interface to resume communication. You can also make the keyboard your home board if desired.
Typing From a Connected Keyboard
You can choose to type directly into your CoughDrop vocalization box from a connected keyboard. To do this, open your preferences page by selecting "preferences" from the drop-down menu under your user icon in the top right corner of many CoughDrop pages.
In the "device preferences" section near the bottom of the page look for a heading which reads "external keyboard" and check the box to enable this option. Be sure to save your changes at the bottom of the page.
