Many AAC users like to have their speech boards set to return to their home board after a button is selected. This can make navigation of speech boards faster for many users.
However, there may be some speech boards for which you would like to stay on that board and not return to the home board until you specifically choose that option. For example, on a keyboard type board or numbers composition board, it might make sense to make multiple selections on that board before returning to your regular home board.
**If you ALWAYS want to stay on a secondary board until you choose to navigate back to your home board, you can make that adjustment on your preferences page. Find instructions for that option here. **
Set a Temporary Home Board While in Speak Mode
You can also set a board to behave as a temporary home board while you are in speak mode. Maybe you want a board to be the home board just for the moment or just for a certain activity. You can tell the program to treat a speech board as a temporary home board for just that speak mode session.
To do this, open the drop-down menu under your user icon while in speak mode. Hit the "set as temporary home" option from the list.
Stay on This Board
A temporary home board will still allow you to move throughout the board set and open connected speech boards.
If you want to stay only on one selected board and not allow buttons to open additional board or move to other places within the board set, you can select "stay on this board" from the menu under your user icon. This setting will keep you ONLY on the current speech board.
You can release this lock by returning to the menu under your user icon and selecting "release board lock."
