CoughDrop supports inflection modifiers for words (i.e. making a word plural, singular, past-tense, etc.). This is accomplished by configuring buttons to apply inflections to the most recent word in the vocalization window.
Note that in some cases the modifier may not make sense, but will still be applied (":plural" on "red" would become "reds")..
Supported modifiers are
":plural" (hat -> hats),
":singular" (cows -> cow),
":comparative" (happy -> happier),
":superlative" (sad -> saddest),
":possessive" (boy -> boy's),
":past" (laugh -> laughed)
":present-participle" (jump -> jumping).
Set inflection type

To set a button as an inflection button, while in edit mode hit the button to open the "button settings window then select the "Sound" section. In the "speak" bar enter a colon (":") followed by the modifier you'd like to have applied (":plural", ":comparative", etc.). If you'd like to try it out you can enter a word in the second box...
Try it out

And hit "Listen" to hear the word with the modifier applied.
When you are finished hit "Close" and make sure to save your changes.
Select inflection
When in Speak Mode, modifier buttons will show whatever label you set for them, so make sure it's something that will make sense for your user.
Inflection applied to the last word

When you hit a modifier button, it will apply the modifier to the last button in the vocalization window (in this case changing "can" to "cans").
Long-press, pop-up inflections
You can enable an option on your preferences page so that inflections will pop up around the desired word through a long button press.
**Be aware that this option may not be available if you have selection settings that have adjusted the length of press required to make a button selection.**
To turn on pop-up inflections, open the preferences page of your account by selecting "preferences" from the drop-down menu under your user icon.
Open the "selection settings" heading and look for the "long-press" option. Check the box and then save your changes at the bottom of the preferences page.

Be sure to save any changes you make on the preferences page at the bottom of the preferences page before you leave.
Use long press in speak mode
When in speak mode, long-press on a speech button will open the inflection settings for that button.
Customize inflections
You can adjust the inflections set for a particular button on a speech board owned by your account by opening the board in edit mode then tapping the button. Select the "language" option from the listing on the left of the button settings window and you can then create customized inflections for that button.
Be sure to save your changes at the top of the edit page before you leave.
Un-Official Guide
One user, Julia Tuttle, created her own guide to customized inflections after working extensively with that feature. You can see her suggestions and tips in the Google Document here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1pwYMW05bXrLxAP5nLJOQJ0hEYOXmt99rZjXI7kJcqAU/edit?usp=sharing
