CoughDrop can be paired with eye gaze technology to enable communication for those with mobility concerns.
Install Eye Gaze
You will need to purchase an eye gaze device and download any needed software for that device before you can pair it with your CoughDrop account.
CoughDrop can pair with most eye gaze systems. You can find more information about which systems can pair with CoughDrop on our partner's page here.
Dedicated eye gaze solutions are currently only available for Windows devices.
Adjust Your Settings
To adjust your CoughDrop account to function using eye gaze, first open your "preferences" page and scroll to the "device preferences" section at the bottom.
Check the box which reads "enable eye/dwell tracking."
The default "dwell type" will be for cursor-based tracking and this will be correct for most eye gaze systems. For cursor-based eye gaze systems you can enter CoughDrop through either the website or the downloaded Windows app to pair your account.
However, if you are using a system with a native integration like an EyeX, EyeTribe, or Eyegaze Edge from LC Technologies you will need to change the dwell type to "eye gaze tracking." You will also need to use the Windows app with these eye gaze solutions. You will not be able to use them if you enter CoughDrop through the website.
You can adjust the other settings as needed to control the cursor type, dwell time, screen touches as modeled events, etc.
If you have questions or concerns please hit the "support" button at the bottom of your CoughDrop dashboard to contact us.
Camera-based eye gaze with no additional hardware
Some iOS and Android devices can use the built in camera on your device to approximate functions like a dedicated eye gaze system. Be aware that this option is less robust than a dedicated system, but might give some functionality for those who need eye gaze but do not have a dedicated eye gaze device.
You can learn more about using CoughDrop with camera-based eye gaze in our support article here: camera-based eye gaze.
