CoughDrop offers an in-app translation feature that uses Google Translate to change speech boards from one language to another. While CoughDrop was created to function primarily in English, we know that there are AAC users around the world that need access to speech support and we want to do everything possible to help every voice be heard
**IF YOU WANT TO PRINT SPEECH BOARDS IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES, YOU WILL NEED TO USE THE OPTION TO MAKE A NEW COPY AND TRANSLATE THE BOARD FOR EACH LANGUAGE**
If you use the option to translate an existing board into multiple languages, you will only be able to print the board in the original language.

Translation Option 1: Add Additional Version of the Speech Board in Other Languages
**Boards translated in this way will NOT be able to be printed in multiple languages, but will allow you to move between the selected languages in speak mode.**
If you would like to be able to view this speech board in languages other than the original language, you can do that by translating the board using the "board actions" option. This option will add a new language option which can be accessed in speak mode to show the button labels in additional languages.
This option DOES NOT create a completely new speech board, it simply adds the option to see the button labels in other languages. As such, images, colors, and other board settings cannot be different for each language. The board itself does not change, the program simply displays the button labels in other languages.
**NOTE** You will need to be sure this is a board owned by your account, otherwise you fill first need to make a copy of the board for your account. You can use the translation option as part of the copying process, but you cannot translate a speech board owned by another account. The owner of the speech board is noted in the board title. The account name shown there is the owner of that board. If the board is NOT owned by your account, you will first need to make your own copy of the board before you can translate it. See the video above for more information.
To get started, find the board that you would like to translate and open it to the board actions page in CoughDrop.
Next, open the drop down menu under "more" and select "board details."
A new window will open. Hit the "translate board" button in the bottom left corner of the window.
You will now need to set your preferences for the translation. Decide whether you want to translate all of your boards or just the board you have selected, select the language to which you would like to translate the boards, and then decide if you want to set this language as your default language in the system.
Hit the "start translation" button when you are ready to go.
CoughDrop will open a new window with the suggested translation for each of the button labels on the selected board. You can preview these labels and make adjustments as needed. While many translations will be good, they will probably not be perfect and may need some tweaking to get them just right.
Be sure to pay particular attention to the board name which will be the first translated block -- this is how you can search for the board later.
Once the button labels have been edited to match your desires, hit the "accept translations" button at the bottom of the window.
Once your translation is complete, you will be able to access newly added board languages by opening the board in speak mode and then selecting "switch language" from the menu under your user icon in the top right corner. The program will attempt to speak using a voice that matches the selected language if one exists within your device options. If there is no matching voice, the program may not be able to speak in that language.
Translation Option 2: Make a New Copy of a Board & Translate it
**Use this option if you plan to use CoughDrop's printing feature to print the board in this language.**
If you would like to create a new, stand-alone copy of a speech board in a different language than the original speech board, you can do that by copying and translating the board.
A copied board is its own, individual version of the board or board set so it can be adjusted, edited, and changed independently of the original speech board. You can change button images, button colors, and other board settings on this new board even if you choose not to change those options on the original board.
If you create copies of a preferred speech board in multiple languages, you may want to add these additional boards to your CoughDrop sidebar for quick access and easy use while in speak mode.
To copy and translate a speech board, first open the board to the board actions page. Then, from the drop-down menu under "more" select "make a copy.
A new window will open and you will have the option to change the board title. If you are a supervisor, you will need to select the account for which you would like to create this new copy of the board. Just tap on the user icon or check the box for multiple users to have their own copy of this board.
Now, check the translation option and select the language to which you would like to translate the board.
Hit the blue button to begin the process to copy the board.
In the window, you will see a listing of the boards within the board set which the program will attempt to copy and translate. By default, the program will copy and translate the full board set, but you can un-select boards within the set if you prefer to keep those boards in the original language.
Hit copy selected boards. The program will now display a preview of the word translations into your selected language. You can adjust these translations as needed to fit your communicator before the process is complete. Hit the "accept translations" button when the translations are ready.
The program will now create a new board or board set. This process can take a few minutes depending on the size of the board set and the processing capacity of your device.
